Traditional antiperspirants contain metals like aluminium and other chemicals, which prevent sweating by clogging sweat glands.
Many natural deodorants replace this with bicarbonate of soda or baking soda, but this can cause skin rashes and dry, itchy skin due to it being alkaline.
The skin is meant to be slightly acidic, with a pH between 4.5 and 5.5, baking soda has a pH of 9. Increasing the pH of your skin in this way can disrupt the skin barrier and lead to irritation.
These natural, handmade deodorants by bare, use food grade Diatomaceous Earth (DE) to neutralise odour and absorb moisture. DE is almost pH neutral, meaning it won’t irritate the skin. It also works to draw out any toxins and heavy metals from the body.
